The centre--edge angle of Wiberg in adult Africans and Caucasians. A radiographic comparison.

چکیده

In an earlier publication (Skirving and Scadden I 979) an anthropometric study of neonatal African hips concluded that the immunity of the African to congenital dislocation was probably related to anatomical factors. The depth of the acetabulum relative to its diameter tended to be deeper in the African than the Caucasian, although the orientation of the acetabulum and the femoral neck was similar in the two groups. It was suggested that a radiographic comparison of the hips of adult African and Caucasians might reveal further evidence of a basic difference in the shape of the hips of the two racial groups.

Acetabular dysplasia in the Sami population: a population study among Sami in north Norway.

OBJECTIVES The overall aim of this study was to evaluate the acetabular coverage of the femoral head as measured by the centre-edge (CE) angle of Wiberg and to evaluate any association between low back pain and hip dysplasia in a Sami-dominated area (the municipalities of Karasjok and Kautokeino) in north Norway. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional population-based study, which included questionna...

A systematic approach to the plain radiographic evaluation of the young adult hip.

Introduction rthopaedic evaluation of hip pain in the young adult population has undergone a rapid evolution over the past decade. This is in large part due to enhanced awareness of structural hip disorders, including developmental dysplasia of the hip and femoroacetabular impingement. Surgical treatment for these disorders continues to be refined, and our ability to identify patients along the...

The normal centre-edge angle of Wiberg in the Chinese population: a population-based cross-sectional study.

This study was designed to provide normal reference values for the centre-edge angle of Wiberg in the Chinese population by measuring 1494 radiographs according to the criteria of Tönnis. The mean angle was 23.1 degrees (4.7 degrees to 46.4 degrees) in childhood (four to nine years), increasing to 28.9 degrees (6 degrees to 48 degrees) in adolescence (10 to 18 years) and reaching 32.8 degrees (...

Bilateral Variability of the Quadriceps Angle (Q angle) in an Adult Indian Population

Objective(s) The objective of this study was to document and explain bilateral differences in the Q angle. Materials and Methods Two hundred limbs of healthy adult Indian volunteers were studied. The Q angle was measured using a goniometric method with the subjects supine, quadriceps relaxed and lower limbs in neutral rotation. The relative lateral placement of the tibial tuberosity with res...
